When talking about ways to stay full or simply feel better, you should always start with hydration! It is recommended to consume at least 80 ounces of water per day. Dehydration can decrease performance by up to 20% therefore adequate water consumption is especially important if you are physically active!
Water also plays a vital role in numerous metabolic processes. Each day you lose water through sweat, urination and simply breathing. It helps boost your metabolism, aids in digestion, lubricates joints, regulates body temperature, and even cushions the brain, spinal cord and other sensitive tissues. To say that proper hydration is important is an understatement. If you’ve been feeling bloated, achy, mentally foggy, or having troubles sleeping, check your water consumption.
Are you having trouble drinking enough water? Check out these tips:
- Add sliced fruits or vegetables to your water jug. Kiwi, blueberries, mango, fresh mint or cucumbers are some of my favorites!
- Carry a clear jug with you. This way you have a visual of your water consumption for the day. I aim to drink one whole gallon per day.
- Don’t like carrying a jug? No worries, keep filling up that cup and use a straw. Seriously, it works!
- Set a reminder. If you easily lose track of time throughout the day, set an alarm for every hour as a reminder to drink more water.
